Question: Does Comet Water
(TM)
really come from comets???
Answer: Well, actually yes. OK, well actually, a percentage of all water on earth came from comets about
Answer: Another cool thing is that the orbit of a comet returns in cycles, just like our recycled bottles. You might say that water from comets refreshed a dry early earth. The way a healthy Comet Water (TM) can refresh a dry body in need of hydration. Gotta love that.
Here you can visualize the Comet Water bottles traveling back around again in the orbits. Coming back around again and again.
Question: How did the comets bring water to earth? Answer: There are many leading scientists and studies that are proposing exactly how it all took place. The main story goes like this.... after several millions of years of a super hot volcanic earth, the planet began to be impacted by millions of comets. The earth also may have been hit by meteorites that contained water as well. Some scientists have also proposed that water also came to earth riding as H2O molecules on small bits of cosmic particles. Who knows, it may have been a combination of all these possibilities. The certain fact is that comets did bring quite a good bit of water way back then. The comets come from a region known as the Oort Cloud. The Oort Cloud lies beyond the outer planets of the solar system. It is home to trillions of comets that have been out there since the solar system was born. Occasionally, a comet leaves the safety of it's home in the Oort Cloud and comes in for a visit into the inner solar system. Then they get caught in an orbit that cycles over and over around the sun. Several comets pass by the earth on a schedule of many years.
Back in the early days of the earth, many comets left the Oort Cloud and thus we were hit by millions of them over millions of years. Comets are ice balls of frozen water. When they impacted our planet they brought trillions of gallons of water with each impact. Over millions of years this amounted to a whole lot of water.
